Department Description

Investment Research Support department is a cross-asset support group spread between two locations – Gurgaon, India and Dalian, China. The group provides fundamental research support (building financial models, maintaining industry databases and conducting Industry and company analysis) to all FIL Equity and Credit analysts and select Portfolio Managers. Additionally, the group provides research support to Venture capital/Private equity analysts and partners in Asia (incl. India, China and Japan) & Europe. The team is organised around global sectors and is highly integrated with the respective regional investment research set-ups.

The group allows analyst teams to cover a higher number of stocks/credits and contribute to VC/PE deals, respond faster to corporate developments, dig deeper into investment issues, and manage coverage gaps. Additionally, the team has data intelligence capabilities which have allowed FIL Research to build proprietary data series, add analysis layer over Research IT tools and do custom quant work for analysts and PMs.

Purpose of your role

Eight Roads Ventures, backed by Fidelity International, focusses on venture and growth equity investments in the technology, consumer & FS (covering enterprise tech, consumer & consumer tech and financial services & fintech in India) and healthcare (covering life sciences, healthcare, pharma, healthcare services and health-tech in India) sectors. The role will involve comprehensive research support to the healthcare team. The role is highly integrated with the investment team in Mumbai/Bangalore with exposure to working on research activities related to new investment opportunities and management/value creation initiatives for existing portfolio companies.

Key Responsibilities

• Make preliminary assessments about the investment potential of specific sectors and companies
• Do secondary and primary research (surveys, channel checks, etc.) to gather information about market size, key players, their management teams, suppliers, customers, products, etc.
• Prepare detailed sector studies and keep abreast of important trends and developments in the relevant sectors
• Financial and competitor analysis on the target companies (company financials, comparables, etc.) to forecast business, Industry, and economic conditions
• Analyse and monitor investees’ key performance metrics
• Take up ad-hoc custom requests as needed

Experience and Qualifications Required

Experience and Key Skills

• 1-3 years’ work experience in Investment / Business / Private equity / VC Research
• Sharp analytical and problem-solving skills, with a logical thought process
• Strong attention to detail, verbal and written business English communication and presentation skills
• In-depth knowledge of one or more sectors in Healthcare (Life sciences, pharma, healthcare services and health-tech) – key drivers, dynamics, trends, and indicators – would be an advantage.
• Database skills – Bloomberg, Capital IQ, Eikon, VCC Edge and other financial databases
• Sound understanding of financial concepts and financial markets

Education
• Graduate or Degree in Engineering from a premier institute
