New source of information for people affected by Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 2
Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Support UK is a charity that provides information and support to individuals and families living in the UK affected by any of the SMA Types, and to the professionals who work with them.
SMA is a neuromuscular condition, the severity of which depends on the Type of SMA and varies from individual to individual. SMA Type 2 causes muscle wasting which affects posture and mobility. It can also affect the respiratory muscles. Individuals with SMA Type 2 require powered wheelchairs, specialist equipment and adaptations, and support from personal assistants in order to be able to live independently.
The SMA Type 2 route map aims to provide helpful information on a wide range of topics, all in one place. These include health information, education, employment, housing adaptations, equipment, transport, learning to drive, leisure time – including going on holiday and financial information. There is also a section on adulthood which is primarily for young adults who have SMA Type 2. It covers relationships, sex, parenthood and independent living.
The route map is an online resource so it will be updated with new information on a regular basis to ensure that it is as accurate as possible. SMA Support UK is accredited to the Information Standard which means that the information has been rigorously reviewed by both professionals and people affected by SMA.
SMA Support UK would love to hear what you think about the route map so have a look and then get in touch.
