Who are The Pleasure Garden?

Sexual pleasure is a fundamental aspect of life that everyone deserves to enjoy, regardless of gender, sexuality, or disability.

The Pleasure Garden is the UK’s Inclusive Sex Shop. I don’t have to tell you that disabled people want to – and do – have sex. Disabled people buy sex toys, are kinky, are gay and all the various shades of sexuality there are, just like non-disabled people. Living with a disability or health condition can however impact on people’s experiences of sex, pleasure and intimacy. It can be challenging emotionally as well as physically and many people struggle to communicate about their needs and have them met.
Sex toys can be hugely powerful in helping disabled people to achieve the things they want for their sex lives. They can help you to give and receive pleasure, achieve greater intimacy with a partner or simply be a great fun way to get your rocks off!

Our Top 17 Accessible Sex Toys

It can sometimes be challenging to find the right toy to suit your needs. Not all sex toys are accessible and if you are not sure what you are looking for it can be hard to know where to start.

That is why we have put together this list of some of the best accessible sex toys out there. It includes some of the top rated sex toys that we sell at The Pleasure Garden.

Three massagers are shown. From left to right: Doxy Massager: Black handle with a large white rounded head and three buttons on the handle. Le Wand Rechargeable Massager: Silver handle with a large black rounded head and three buttons on the handle. Le Wand Petite: Purple handle with a smaller rounded head and three buttons on the handle.

Wand style vibrators have a large head on a long handle and are a great versatile vibrator. It can be used during solo and partner play and are generally some of the most powerful vibrators around. Their power means that they are perfect for people who need strong stimulation.

Combined with the broad surface area of a large head  they can still be effective even if you find it hard to hold a vibrator in one place.

Some wands can be heavy and can be tiring to hold for a long period of time. However it can easily also be used hands-free. By resting one on a bed or a pillow you can kneel over it and grind against it.

Alternatively it can be placed in your lap or held between the thighs.

As a safety note, if you are using any vibrator hands-free like this make sure you can turn it off or remove it from your body easily.

Our recommendation:

  • One of our favourite Wand Vibrators is the Doxy which has some great accessible features. The Doxy Wand is big and powerful but super simple to use. It plugs into the mains via a long chord and delivers strong rumbling vibrations from its large rounded head. It has three great big buttons which control all the settings and are super easy to find and push – even in the dark.
  • If you like the idea of the Doxy but aren’t a fan of plugging it into the wall, the Le Wand or the smaller Le Wand Petitte offer the same power and style but with a rechargeable motor you can use anywhere

Penis Masturbation Sleeves

The Hot Octopuss Pulse

Black Hot Octopus Masturbation Sleeve, side view showing an arch and vibrating pad.

If you (or your partner) have a penis – a masturbation sleeve can be a great fund way to enjoy  new sensations. The Hot Octopus Pulse is a vibrating masturbation sleeve which has been specifically designed to meet the needs of disabled people.

Its wings wrap around the penis and a vibrating plate provides powerful stimulation. The great thing about the Pulse is that you don’t need to be able to achieve or maintain an erection to use it. Also, unlike many masturbation sleeves, you don’t need to be able to stroke it up and down, making it a great choice for people with limited hand function.

 Our recommendation:

The Hot Octopuss Pulse comes in a few different varieties.

  • The Solo Essential is a great option if you are focused on solo play. It is the lowest cost model – but still packs everything you need for a great time
  • The Duo combines the Pulse plate stimulation with vibration to stimulate a partner (and a remote control). This makes it a great choice for couples looking to explore new ways of creating pleasure together.

Vibrating Cock Rings

A black vibrating cock ring with a rounded end and an on/off button in the middle. The ring portion is at the bottom for easy placement. To the left are three smaller images showing different views of the product, including its packaging.

A vibrating silicone cock ring is designed to slip over the penis and provide stimulation for both partners. While it is great at doing this job it is also a fab choice of vibrator for anyone who struggles to grip or hold small objects.

You can use the loop of the cock ring as a grip, or slip it over your fingers, and use the vibrating pad anywhere on your body.

Our recommendations:

  • The Loving Joy Vibrating Cock Ring is a simple to use rechargeable cock ring which has a larger than usual vibrating pad. This means it can be easier to get in to the right position and reach the right anatomy.

Strap On Harnesses

Having penetrative sex with a partner is often a really important part of a relationship.

Some disabilities and health conditions such as spinal injury, erectile dysfunction, genital difference or mobility impairments can make unassisted penetration difficult or impossible. One solution could be to try using a strap-on harness with a harness compatible dildo

They offer a versatile and empowering way to enjoy penetrative sex, making it accessible for those with disabilities or mobility issues.

Underwear-style harnesses are comfortable and stylish. Available in both butch and femme styles, they can be worn under clothes and are ready to go when you are. For maximum control, buckle up with some leg straps. These harnesses are great for people with limited hand mobility because they need little adjustment once fitted.

Two harness-compatible dildos are shown. Avant D10 Ergo Mini: Blue dildo with a curved shaft and a rounded base. Avant D14 - Heart of Gold: Multi-colored dildo with a blue tip, yellow middle stripe, and purple base, featuring a curved shape.

Our recommendations:

  • SpareParts make great strap-on harnesses that suit a wide variety of body shapes and preferences. For example, the SpareParts Deuce is designed to comfortably fit people who have a penis and can be used if you are able to achieve and maintain an erection or not. The SpareParts Tomboi are designed like a pair of underwear and are simple to pull up without the need for adjusting straps or buckles.
  • The Sportsheets New Comers Set is a great affordable option for those who want to try a harness without spending too much money. This set also includes a silicone dildo to test it out with!

For those looking to explore a variety of models that cater to different needs and preferences, there are several options available. Companies like Intimaly offer a range of models designed to enhance intimacy and pleasure for individuals with disabilities. Their collection includes diverse designs that can be adapted to suit individual requirements, making them a valuable resource for those seeking accessible sex toys and aids.

Bondage Tape

A roll of glossy, red bondage tape with a strip partially unrolled. Smaller images of the same tape in pink, purple, clear, and black are displayed on the left side

Bondage Tape looks just like colourful duct tape, but this magical stuff only sticks to itself. It is a great fun and creative way to play with bondage that is simple to use and doesn’t leave any sticky residue.

The reason Bondage Tape makes our top list of  sex toys for disabled people however is that it is also great for adapting sex toys.

Use it to strap your sex toys to pillows, body parts, beds or wheelchairs to hold them in place hands-free.

It can also be used to attach grips (such as a sponge) to the handles of sex toys which are otherwise tricky to hold.

When you are done, it is super easy to remove and doesn’t leave a mark. Cheap and available in a wide variety of colours Bondage Tape is a really affordable and fun way to test out different ways of using sex toys.

Lube

At The Pleasure Garden we love lube.

A row of four lubricant bottles with their names shown below. From left to right: Liquid Silk Water-based Lubricant in a white pump bottle, Sliquid Naturals H2O in a clear bottle with blue label, Sliquid Naturals Sassy in a clear bottle with pink label, and YES WB Lubricant in a white tube with blue-green label.

It makes all kinds of sex smoother, safer and more enjoyable! While we think that everyone should use lube (trust us, it is great), there are some disabilities and health conditions which can cause vaginal dryness.

Introducing a good quality personal lubricant can help you to reduce discomfort and increase pleasure during sex, masturbation and when using sex toys. Lubricant is particularly important if you are exploring any type of anal play. This area of the body is especially sensitive and does not produce its own lubrication – so apply liberally!

The main types of lubricant are water or silicone based. Water based lube is generally cheaper and can be used with all types of sex toys. Silicone lube is thicker and lasts longer, which can be great particularly for anal play, but is sometimes incompatible with silicone sex toys.

When buying lube make sure to check the ingredients and avoid anything with glycerin, parabens or sugars in them.

Ingredients to Avoid in Personal Lubricants

Ingredient Reasons to Avoid
Glycerin – Promotes yeast infections and bacterial vaginosis (BV)
– Increases the risk of STI transmission
– Causes irritation to vaginal and rectal tissues
Parabens – Potentially disrupt hormone signaling in the body
– May negatively impact fertility
– Linked to an increased risk of cancer
Sugars – Feeds yeast, potentially leading to yeast infections
– Disrupts the natural pH balance of the vagina
Petrochemicals – Can cause irritation and burning sensations
(e.g., propylene glycol, petroleum)
Preservatives – May cause itching or burning
(e.g., benzyl alcohol, citric acid)

Our recommendations:

  • Liquid Silk is one of our favourite water based lubes as it has a lovely silky feel and is slightly moisturising.
  • Sliquid Silver is a great, super high quality silicone lubricant which won’t break the bank.

Position Aids

Lots of people use pillows or cushions to support themselves during sex, but using a dedicated positioning aid can be a really helpful tool to create comfort and support. There are lots of options out there from straps to pillows (and combinations of the two!)

Our recommendations:

Black adjustable strap with padded supports, designed to assist with positioning during sex. The packaging shows a couple demonstrating its use. The brand name "Sportsheets" is visible on the package.

Blindfolds

All the senses are involved in sexual pleasure, but sometimes things can get a bit overwhelming, especially for those with sensory processing issues.

Using a blindfold can not only create an exciting and alluring experience but also help reduce sensory overload. By blocking out the visual, you can concentrate on your sense of touch, get in sync with your body and explore new sensations.
