Last week, play time ended when a 5 year old was asked to leave Berzerk Children’s Activity Centre in Northampton for using a wheelchair.
Speaking to The Sun , Archie’s mum Kay said “The manager told us, ‘We have to keep our go karts confined for a reason, so therefore it would be wrong to allow a motorised vehicle on the play area’.”
When emailed for a statement, Managing Director Ian Redfern told Disability United “Further to your email I would like to confirm that this issue is being dealt with by the Trust in direct conjunction with the mother of the child.
I can confirm that we certainly do not have a ‘no wheelchairs’ policy at Berzerk. We are an inclusive organisation and welcome all visitors with disabilities to our facilities.
Disability and Equalities training is involved in our induction process for all our employees. We have an Equalities, Diversity & Inclusion Statement, Equalities and Diversity Policy and Dignity at Work Policy that are adhered to, and our Employee Handbook, issued to all employees at the commencement of their employment, contains a section on Equalities & Diversity.”
We hope that all parents and children will be welcomed at Berzerk in future.
